I’d been living in the US for 7 years when my best friend explained a comment I made to somone with: “She’s just off the boat.”
I’ve been getting on and off the boat for 17 years now. A perpetual foreigner. But no complaints – I’ve loved almost every minute of it. My journey so far: Moscow > Boston > Paris > Washington, DC > London > Copenhagen. I’ve lived in each place just enough to get it, but never long enough to be considered a local. I don’t really believe in total integration anyway: it’s neither fun nor particularly valuable. By living in that delicate state of in-betweenness, I think I gather more interesting material for life, work - and this blog.
No, I’m not a sailor. I don’t even own anything that floats (though I dream of one day floating up to the office in my very own kayak). I’m a marketing person with a love of words and new ideas. And that alone has taken me to all sorts of cool places.
